History

The first adult Canadian national championship took place in 1953. Restored in 1972, the Canadian 5 Pin Bowling Championships, now called the Open, is an elite event for Canada’s best adult bowlers and consists of local, provincial and national championships. The Calgary 5 Pin Bowlers’ Association hosts the annual Zone Championships each January with over 50 participants and advances the top 9 men, 9 women and 3 coaches to the annual Provincial Championships who compete as part of teams and as singles. The Zone Championships are a grueling 20 games bowled over 2 days and challenge bowlers’ skill and endurance.
